Welcoming Refugees from Ukraine to the Shelfords and Stapleford: A Community Initiative
We are a community initiative in three villages just south of Cambridge. Our aim is to welcome refugees from Ukraine into our homes and community. In our first week alone, we received over 60 offers of accommodation which will potentially translate into 120 people being accommodated in local homes, and this number is increasing from week to week. Because ours is a small community, we think that our Ukrainian visitors will be able to integrate and unite swiftly as a group, and there is tremendous willingness to offer support in many ways.
Our Ukrainian guests may have left their homes with little more than a small suitcase or a carrier bag and will have the need for many basic items upon arrival here.
