Family and Home

Consider your home and your family.

  • Are you calm, flexible, patient, and empathetic?
  • Can you offer your guest a warm welcome and ideally, some private space?

Register

Once you are comfortable and confident that you can adapt to welcome guests into your home, proceed to register for ‘Holmes for Ukraine’ by clicking the button below, as an important first step in the whole process.  This does not get any matching started, but it is important that you have a record in the system.

OASISS Hosting

For those living in or near to The Shelfords, or Stapleford, in South Cambridge, Complete the Offer to Host form on this website and OASISS will begin the matching process.

First meetings

When you are offered a family group that you think will work with your situation, arrange to meet online.

Use WhatsApp or Zoom to make a video call, if that is possible for the Ukrainians, to ideally be able to ‘see’ each other as well as ask questions and exchange information.

Keep questions as open as possible and not too probing, while being enough to get you comfortable.

Some Ukrainians from the East will have Russian as their first language, rather than Ukrainian, but often speak both.  If you need help with translation, contact granta.oasiss@gmail.com and we will find someone to help.

Have as many meetings as you need to get comfortable.  It’s important to stay in contact during this process and to have the meetings in quick succession until a decision is made to proceed or not.
