A Ukrainian Mother and 16 year old son are in desperate need of accommodation – even if for just a few weeks, until we can find something more permanent. Due to unforeseen circumstances, they were recently made homeless at the end of 2024 and have been living in a Travelodge for some weeks. She has a car and is looking for work. She gets her son to school every day in Buntingford where he is doing well – he has just been promoted to the top set for Maths and Sciences.
OASISS is actively working to find this family rented accommodation and will continue in this effort. We’ve drawn a blank so far, sadly, so want to spread the message as far as possible.
South Cambs DS are also looking, but today this family has been told (by South Cambs DS) that they must move to a flat in Peterborough, this Friday! She has no contacts there, and it will be impossible for her to get her son to school. It is a temporary arrangement, but it could still be for many weeks and her son will be missing schooling at a critical time (GCSEs).
The government scheme for hosts is still running and provides £600 per month to hosts. There is also the South Cambs Landlord scheme available for anyone wishing to rent a property longer term, which ensures that any landlord will get the market rate. Could you help, or could anyone you know help? Please spread the word. Does anyone have an annexe, or a property standing empty?
